December has arrived covered with white snowflakes, a scent of cinnamon, and the soft crackling of fireplaces. While many fear the cold of winter in Montreal, no one can deny that the activities offered in the city during the Holiday season can help appreciate the beginning of the cold season. Take out your agenda and note the following dates. They'll help you enjoy the festivities to the fullest.
Montreal's Holiday Season Classics
The Nutcracker ballet by Les Grands Ballets is undeniably the greatest Christmas classic in Montreal. Once again this year, true to tradition, Tchaïkovsky's masterpiece will be presented from December 13th to 30th at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier of the Place des Arts.
And if you REALLY like The Nutcracker, know that The Nutcracker Market is currently in full swing until December 9th at the Palais des congrès de Montreal. By visiting its exhibitors to find the perfect Christmas presents, you also participate to finance Les Grands Ballets' productions. "Indeed, 10% of exhibitors’ sales are remitted to Les Grands Ballets’ Nutcracker Fund, which allows 2,800 sick and disadvantaged children each year to attend a performance of The Nutcracker for free, as well as allowing 1,500 among them to participate in educational workshops."
If you are looking for a great family show, you'll probably also like Québec Issime's Décembre. Starring Marc Hervieux, one of our finest tenors, this musical Christmas tale will be presented at the Théâtre Maisonneuve from December 9th to the 30th.
Of course, if you prefer to enjoy winter outdoors, you'll be happy to know that the Old Port of Montreal's Natrel skating rink will open on December 8th. The perfect excuse to enjoy the skyline while spending quality time with your loved ones! While you're there, you might want to consider visiting the Montréal en Fêtes festival that will be held from December 21st to the 31st.
Ideas to try out this December
The name of this Christmas-themed pop-up bar is one everyone's lips these days. Miracle Montreal will be serving Holiday-inspired cocktails in an over the top decor at the 139 Saint-Paul West starting this Friday, November 30th.
Finally, as we always suggest, walking around the city will allow you to make many local discoveries. For example, the Atwater Market in the Sud-Ouest district will be transformed into a Christmas Village every weekend until December 23rd. Also, more than 100 shows are planned in different parks as part of the Noël dans le parc event that runs from December 1st to the 25th.
This December, the Accès International team offers you its best wishes for health, love, and peace. Hoping to be your number one choice when moving to Montreal! Happy Holidays!
