Prepare in advance for airport screening

February 26, 2013

(NC)—Are you all set for your March Break vacation? It's a much anticipated time of year and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority provides tips to help you get to your destination as quick and easily as possible. Knowing the ins and outs of security screening will ensure that your airport experience is free from stress and delays.

At the beginning of the screening, have your boarding pass ready to present to the screening officers. The contents of your shirt and pants pockets (coins, watch, etc.) should go in your jacket pockets. Then place your jacket (including suit jackets, blazers and sport jackets) in a bin.

You should avoid wearing shoes with metal arches, buckles, steel toes or shanks as well as belts with metal buckles. Large metallic accessories will likely set off the metal detector and slow you down.

Laptops should be removed from carrying case and placed in a bin. Other electronic items like cell phones, cameras and tablets can be kept in your carry-on baggage.

Finally remember the restrictions on liquids, aerosols and gels: containers need to be 100ml or less and must fit into a single, closed and resealable plastic bag, no larger than one litre. These include bottles of water, suntan lotion, tooth paste and other personal products.
